Giant's Causeway
The Giant's Causeway is an area of about 40,000 interlocking basalt columns, the result of an ancient volcanic eruption. It is located in County Antrim on the north coast of Northern Ireland, about three miles (5 km) northeast of the town of Bushmills.
The columns are hexagonal, pentagonal, or quadrilateral in cross-section and are up to 12 meters (39 feet) high. They were formed when molten lava flowed over the land and cooled rapidly, causing it to crack into columns.
The Giant's Causeway is a popular tourist destination and has been designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is also a National Nature Reserve and a Special Area of Conservation.
